What kind of optmization?

0 commenti
I've found this good presentation about indie-developing, but can be applied to every programmed-related task.
In particular there are two points I agree completly:
  1. what do do you need to optimize is not your program, is your life,
  2. complicated algoritms are not good
What I need, as hobby-developer in spare time, is a plan, really. Many times I've started so many projects, but after few hours they are just some code on my hard-disk, nothing can be showed around.
So thinking about this hobby, what are my ideas? We'll see :D

Goblin Invasion

0 commenti
This is just a little experiment into Rougelike universe

Suggestion: click with your mouse on game area to get focus
  • Your objective: kill all goblins
  • Your army: only you
  • Gotta kill em all!

  • WASD or arrows to move
  • R to reset a game
  • Move against a goblin to kill it
  • Collect potions to heal
Note: you need Java to play it!

PostMortem

I've found AsciiPanel, a library to build rougelike and I thought: why not? So development starts: 12 commits in 3 hours get this little rougelike working. A funny experience.. but why rougelike?
Because rougelike are everywhere!! Think about Diablo, Wow or older Muds.. every game can be described and de-maked as rougelike (even Doom as DoomRL).
I'm not rougelike experts, but I've always found interesting this little (?) crazy games with many potential and THE main core value: gameplay.
Rougelike have many defects (IMHO), like interface problem (Dwarf Fortress anyone?) but can be really, really interesting!

Finish a game

Finishing a game, like any other software project (or real life..) is not easy. It's done of so many little steps requiring everything that you can give up in any time.
So it's interesting to have some feedback about this topic from Derek Yu (Spelunky?), in this article. My suggestion is to read it and think before next game, next idea, next .. everything :D

Try only to not think too much
